Mike is in deep cover at IMC. Daily he takes public transport to maintain the disguise of a corporate employee.

Grammar Patterns
N (transport)で N (place)へ 行きます。
Go to N by transport.
〜と N (place)へ 行きます。
Go to N with someone.
〜に N (place)へ 帰ります。
Return to N on a date.

〜で vs 〜と — particle precision
「〜で」 = by means of (bus, train, foot, etc.) — instrumental.
「〜と」 = with (a person).
- バスで = by bus
- 友達と = with a friend
Walking is special: 「歩いて」 (not 「足で」).
〜へ vs 〜に — direction
Both can mark destination. 「〜へ」 emphasizes direction (toward), 「〜に」 emphasizes arrival point. In N5 lessons, 「〜へ」 is taught for movement.
- 日本へ 行きます = go to Japan
- 家へ 帰ります = return home
Dates: 〜月 〜日 + に
Use 「に」 with specific dates:
- 7月15日に = on July 15
- 2026年6月4日に = on June 4, 2026
Day-of-week needs 「〜曜日に」 too: 日曜日に = on Sunday.
Roleplay Practice
Try this dialog with a partner (or aloud, switching roles).
Scene: Mike’s partner at the airport, asking about his return plans.
Partner: ミラーさん、 会社へ 何で 行きますか?
(Miller, how do you go to the office?)
Mike: バスで 行きます。
(By bus.)
Partner: 日本へ 誰と 来ましたか?
(With whom did you come to Japan?)
Mike: ミラーさんと 来ました。
(I came with Mr. Miller.)
Partner: いつ 国へ 帰りますか?
(When will you return home?)
Mike: 7月15日に 帰ります。
(On July 15.)
Tip: Switch roles. Replace バス, 7月15日, ミラーさん with your own.
