Cinema にほんご does not show advertising, and does not ask you to make an account.

The site remembers where you got to, so next time you start from there — that stays on your device. It also tries to know the people who read here, with one cookie — which lessons hold, and which ones lose you halfway. Not to file anyone away: it is the only way the next fifty get better. Our side of it is on the same page, next to what we know of you — the lessons that got brushed up, and the ones still to come.

Everything the site keeps is listed on one page — Your seat — with a button that forgets all of it. Nothing is sold, and nothing follows you to other sites.

どこまで読んだかを覚えていて、次に来たときはそこから始められます ── これはあなたの端末の中だけに残ります。あわせて cookie を一つ使って、ここで読んでいる人のことを知ろうとしています ── どの課が最後まで読まれ、どの課で人が離れるのか。知ろうとしなければ、暗い客席で知らない人同士がすれ違い続けるだけで、近づくことも、良くなることもないからです。こちらの側も同じページに並べてあります ── ブラッシュアップした課と、これから来る課。それが、少し知らせてもらう代わりに返せるものです。

What data this site collects

• Server logs — Standard nginx access logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user-agent). Retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging. Not shared with third parties.
• Contact form — If you write to us via the Contact form, we keep your message and your name/email so we can reply. We do not add you to a mailing list.
• Comments — Comments are currently disabled site-wide.
• Cookies — One analytics cookie, plus WordPress session cookies if you log in. See Cookies below.

Cookies

Analytics — Google Analytics 4, with consent mode enabled. One first-party cookie. It lets us tell one reader opening five lessons from five readers opening one. Nothing more. And it comes with an obligation on our side: the work itself is what we owe you back — the lessons that got brushed up, listed on Your seat, beside what we know of you.

We do not put a consent dialog in front of the page. A place you keep coming back to should not greet you with nice to meet you every time. Instead, everything we keep is shown on Your seat, reachable from the bottom of every page, where you can turn the counting off — or ask us to forget all of it. The moment you do, the cookie is deleted.

Technical — WordPress session cookies, only if you log in. Most readers never will.

Your own settings — furigana, romaji, Japanese alongside, and the language that stands next to the Japanese are kept in your browser’s own storage (localStorage). They never leave your device, they are not sent to us, and Forget all of this does not touch them — they are yours, not ours.

Why we count at all

Fifty lessons is a lot to get right. Knowing which ones are read to the end — and which ones lose people halfway — is how they get better. That is the only thing the numbers are for.

なぜ数えるのか
50課を良くしていくには、どの課が最後まで読まれて、どの課で人が離れるのかを知る必要があります。数字は、そのためだけに使います。

What we do not do

• No advertising, and no advertising-network cookies (no AdSense, no programmatic ads).
• No Meta Pixel or other tracking pixels.
• No selling or sharing of data with third parties for marketing.
• No fingerprinting beyond what nginx and WordPress need for the site to function.
• No account, ever, to read a lesson.

Embedded content from other sites

Some pages may embed external content (for example, a YouTube video). If you interact with such embedded content, the third-party site (e.g., YouTube) can collect data about you according to its own privacy policy. We try to keep such embeds minimal, and to mention them clearly where they appear.

Your rights

You can request that any personal data we hold about you (such as a Contact form message) be sent to you or deleted, by writing to hello@cinemanihongo.com. We aim to respond within 30 days.

Changes

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, post a notice on the homepage.

Being forgotten

Your seat lists everything the site keeps about your reading — where you stopped, which lessons you opened, which tools you keep coming back to — and one button forgets all of it, including the analytics cookie. Your reading settings stay, because those are yours.
