Episode 28: Two Things at Once
In the safehouse, Mike briefs his partner — eyes on the files, words flowing at the same time.
隠れ家で、マイクは相棒に説明する ── 資料に目を落としながら、言葉は止まらない。
マイクは 写真を 見せながら 説明します。
Why trust this man for the job? Mike lists it plainly.
なぜ この男に任せる? マイクは淡々と並べる。
かれは にほんごも 話せるし、運転も できます。
And the hideout itself — it checks out.
そして隠れ家そのものも ── 問題ない。
この 隠れ家は しずかだし、安全です。

1. V-ながら (doing two things at once)
マイクは 写真を 見せながら 説明します。
- Mike explains while showing photos.

2. 〜し、〜 (listing reasons / qualities)
かれは にほんごも 話せるし、運転も できます。
- He can speak Japanese, and he can drive too.

- Anh ấy biết nói tiếng Nhật, mà còn biết lái xe nữa.
3. な-adj だし / N だし
この 隠れ家は しずかだし、安全です。
- This hideout is quiet, and it’s safe.

- Chỗ ẩn náu này vừa yên tĩnh vừa an toàn.
4. 〜し、〜し (stacking reasons)
この ルートは 速いし、人も 少ないです。
- This route is fast, and there are few people too.
- 这条路线又快，人又少。 / 這條路線又快，人又少。
- Tuyến đường này vừa nhanh, lại vừa ít người.

Grammar Patterns
V-ます形 + ながら
Drop ます, add ながら. Two actions by the same person at the same time; the main action is the second verb. 音楽を聞きながら歩きます。
普通形 + し、〜
Plain form + し lists reasons or qualities (often more than one). な-adj/N add だ: しずかだし、社員だし. Implies ‘and (on top of that)’.
〜し、〜し、〜 (stacking)
Use し twice or more to pile up reasons toward a conclusion: 速いし、安いし、いいです。(It’s fast, cheap, so it’s good.)
Grammar Picture
ながら — same subject only
Both actions must be done by the same person. The main point is the second verb: 「テレビを見ながら食べます」 = (mainly) eat, while watching TV.
し vs て — what’s the difference?
〜て just connects. 〜し implies reasons piling up (‘and what’s more…’), often leading to a judgment: 安いし、近いし、ここにします。

Scene: Choosing a meeting spot. Pair up — give two reasons with 〜し. Swap roles.
A: どうして この店に しますか?
(Why this shop?)
B (マイク): しずかだし、人も 少ないし、いいですよ。
(It’s quiet, few people, so it’s good.)
A: なるほど。資料を 見せながら 話しましょう。
(I see. Let’s talk while looking at the files.)
