Grammar Patterns
〜ように (goal)
Use the potential / non-volitional verb + ように to express purpose: 話せるように 練習します = practice so as to be able to speak. (For volitional purpose, L42 uses ために.)
〜ように なります (change)
A change into a new state or ability: わかるように なりました = (gradually) came to understand. Negative: 〜なく なりました.
〜ように します (effort/habit)
Make an effort or habit: 確認するように しています = I make it a habit to check. Negative caution: 〜ないように して ください = please try not to ~.
Grammar Picture
ように vs ために (purpose)
ように: with potential / non-volitional verbs, or different subjects — 見えるように / 子供が 食べられるように.
ために (L42): with volitional verbs, same subject — 留学する ために 貯金します.
なります vs します
〜ように なります = a change happens (often beyond your control). 〜ように します = you make an effort / form a habit. 食べられるように なりました (I came to be able to eat it) vs 食べるように しています (I try to eat it).
Roleplay Practice

(Why do you practice every day?)
